Just a Little Too Much Carnage

Originally posted November 4, 2009

Raj and I are both a little on edge right now - we've had two mice kills in 12 hours, both in our bedroom. The last one is the one that has sent us into Overload: Lola just moments ago popped her head out of the closet with a mouse, kicking and dangling by the tail from her teeth.  It isn't the MICE that have us squeamish - it's the torture The Kittehs put them through before they die that is just a little too Animal Kingdom for our sensitive dispositions.  It might not be so dreadful if the torture and killing took place somewhere other than our SANCTUARY but our bedroom does seem to have evolved into the killing ground of choice.

Adding another high note of hysteria to the mix is that *we know* without a doubt that it is only a matter of time before one of The Kittehs brings one of those Mice up on our bed while we're in it, and the day I wake up next to a dead or dying mouse on my pillow is likely to be the day my delicate mental state throws itself a bon voyage party and heads for the nearest 5 star hotel for a some R & R.

In the meantime, we're going to put out some version of the Havahart humane trap; I've even found instructions to build your own humane trap, and since Raj and I are definitely DIY types, we may try it first. I particularly like what the writer says about using humane traps:
"Call us a bunch of bleeding-heart, granola-chewing hippies, but watching a mouse starve to death while it struggles on a glue trap or coaxing pests with poison isn't our idea of a good time." - From TreeHugger.com
All this, before 8:00 in the morning!
