Not Yet Winter, As Far As I'm Concerned

To say that I am deeply disappointed that there is no snow yet is an understatement of drastic proportions. Indeed, as far as I'm concerned, this isn't even WINTER yet; it is instead a very protracted Fall, albeit a Fall where all the leaves are already gone, plants have died, and ponds are starting to freeze over.  The sun is out. Due to my California-ness new word I assume that when the sun is shining, there must be warmth.  WRONG!! The presence of sun in the sky has absolutely NOTHING to do with local warmth, and I am struggling to reconcile that with the experiences of my formative years in Southern California, none of which prepared me for Winter in New England.

The real problem though, the fly in our frozen ointment, is that while it is bitterly cold, THERE IS NO SNOW.  The lack of snow contributes to my Denial about how truly cold it is: if the sun is shining and the ground is clear, there will be warmth.  WRONG AGAIN!!  High temperatures today never got out of the 20s F, and due to the brisk and frisky wind blowing, the "Feels like" number never got out of single digits, topping out at 9 degrees F. Baby, it's COLD outside!

I ASK YOU, WHERE IS THE SNOW THAT MAKES THE COLD WORTH THE EFFORT??
