Frank Polch was Nancy Singh's second cousin, and he bequeathed The Fahm to Raj's oldest brother Mike. Frank married Betty (nee Scott), and together they came to live at The Fahm sometime during the early years of World War II. It is Betty's footsteps that I echo here, for the most part: her steps from the kitchen to the clothesline, her steps in the kitchen itself, up the maid stairs, down the main stairs, from the kitchen through the coal room to the garden and back again, from the kitchen to the cutting garden....it is Betty's spirit more than anyone's that I "feel" here at The Fahm...
